Solar Charge Controller

The charging brain between panels and batteries.

A solar charge controller regulates PV output so the battery bank charges safely. MPPT controllers also optimize solar harvest by tracking the best operating point of the PV array.

Role in the System

Controls battery charging voltage and current.

Protects batteries from unsafe overcharging.

Matches PV array output with the battery system voltage.

Sizing Checks

PV array open-circuit voltage.

Maximum charging current.

Battery voltage: 12V, 24V, 48V or higher.

Controller type: MPPT or PWM.

Temperature derating and future panel expansion.

Safety Checks

PV input must not exceed controller voltage limit.
